Deadlock's Ranked mode relaunched on July 30, 2026 with a new ladder, new rank names and strict entry rules, and its first season ends on October 7. Older guides still list the previous names, so this page sets out the current ladder in order, how many players sit in each rank, and exactly what you need to get in.

Deadlock Ranks in Order

There are twelve tiers in total. Obscurus is the placeholder for players who have not calibrated yet. Above it sit eleven real ranks, lowest to highest: Initiate, Seeker, Acolyte, Sentinel, Mystic, Ritualist, Emissary, Oracle, Phantom, Ascendant and Eternus.

Every rank except Obscurus is split into six subranks, I to VI, which makes 66 steps from Initiate I to the top of Eternus. Eternus works differently from the rest: its thresholds move daily based on the player population, so the top of the ladder is always relative to everyone else.

Deadlock Rank Distribution

MetaBot.GG tracked 261,486 ranked players over the 30 days to September 28, 2026. This is the share of players in each rank:

Initiate 12.0%. Seeker 18.5%. Acolyte 15.1%. Sentinel 11.9%. Mystic 10.4%. Ritualist 9.8%.

Emissary 8.4%. Oracle 9.1%. Phantom 3.5%. Ascendant 0.96%. Eternus 0.26%.

The median player is Sentinel 4. The top 25% starts at Ritualist 6, the top 10% at Oracle 4, the top 5% at Phantom 1 and the top 1% at Ascendant 2. Oracle holds slightly more players than Emissary below it, which fits the calibration cap: eight placement games can take a strong player as high as Oracle VI but no further, so a cluster forms there before the climb into Phantom.

How Rank Points Work

Wins and losses move you by roughly 250 Rank Points, adjusted by your hidden matchmaking rating. It takes 1,000 points to move up a subrank and 2,000 to cross the boundary into a new rank. Losses are softened by protection: you need two consecutive losses to drop a subrank and five to drop a full rank.

You pick your hero before you queue, which lets the matchmaker balance team compositions, and you can swap once during the pre-game phase. Ranked also raised hero bans from two to three per match.

What You Need to Unlock Ranked

Valve set the bar high. You need 60 wins in Standard Mode, and you need at least 15 Standard wins on each of three different heroes. You can only bring a hero into Ranked once they have 15 Standard wins, so the pool you can use grows as you play. Accounts with active sanctions, low priority penalties or communication bans are locked out.

Ranked is solo or duo only. Duo partners must be within one full rank of each other, or three subranks for Eternus players. Standard Mode stays unranked with no party size limit, which is where full stacks of friends now play.

Seasons, Resets and Rewards

Season 1 runs from July 30 to October 7, 2026, about ten weeks. At the start of each season players take a soft reset and play eight solo calibration matches. The season reward is a hideout item that marks the peak rank you reached. Leaderboard entry also tightened: 75 matches in 30 days for the global board, and 30 matches plus 100 lifetime wins on a hero for its hero board.

Getting the Most Out of Calibration

Calibration decides where you start, and the eight matches carry more weight than any other games in the season. They are solo only, so there is no carrying a friend through them. Play them on heroes that already have plenty of Standard wins, not on the third hero you just scraped to 15 wins to unlock Ranked.

Because calibration caps at Oracle VI, strong players should expect to keep climbing after placements rather than seeing their true rank straight away. The cluster of players at Oracle in the distribution is partly this effect, and it means the games between Oracle and Phantom tend to be more competitive than the rank badges suggest.

How Rare Each Rank Is

Reaching Mystic puts you in roughly the top 43% of Ranked players. Emissary is roughly top 22%, Oracle top 14%, and a Phantom badge means you are in about the top 5% of everyone who has calibrated. Ascendant and Eternus together hold about 1.2% of players, roughly 3,200 people out of the 261,486 tracked.

Those figures describe players who have met the entry requirements, not the full Deadlock player base. With 60 Standard wins and three qualified heroes needed to enter, the Ranked population already skews toward committed players, so even an Initiate badge represents more experience than the name suggests.

Climbing Faster

The fastest route up is a small pool of strong heroes. Our Deadlock tier list shows which heroes are winning on the current build, and the Deadlock characters guide covers all 38 with their role tags. For population trends that affect queue times, see the Deadlock player count.

How We Researched This

Methodology

The rank ladder, unlock requirements and point system were taken from Valve's July 30, 2026 Ranked update as reported by Tech Times and deadlock.one, and confirmed against Mobalytics' ranked guide on September 28, 2026. The distribution comes from MetaBot.GG, which tracked 261,486 ranked players over the previous 30 days, pulled on September 28, 2026. Deadlock is in beta and the ladder is new, so percentages will shift as more players calibrate, and this page is due for review when Season 2 begins.
