Is Dead by Daylight Crossplay? Platforms Explained
Quick Answer
Yes, Dead by Daylight has crossplay across Steam, Epic, Microsoft Store, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch, and it is on by default. Cross-progression is a separate system that needs a Behaviour Account and does not carry everything across.

Dead by Daylight has had crossplay for years, and it is switched on the moment you install the game. The part that confuses people is that crossplay and cross-progression are two different systems with two different rule sets: one decides who shares your lobby, the other decides what follows your account between platforms. Mixing them up is why players expect their Bloodpoints to appear on a new console and find an empty profile instead. Here is how both work as of September 2026.
The Short Answer
Yes. Dead by Daylight supports crossplay across Steam, Epic Games Store, the Microsoft Store, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch. A survivor on Switch can be in the same trial as a killer on PS5 and three more survivors split across Steam and Xbox. It is enabled by default, no setting required, and the matchmaker mixes platforms without asking. Cross-progression exists too, but it runs on a separate Behaviour Account system that you have to set up yourself.
Every Platform That Shares a Lobby
The crossplay pool covers eight storefronts and consoles. On PC that means Steam, the Epic Games Store and the Microsoft Store versions all sit in the same queue, which matters more than it sounds: PC players often assume the split between storefronts is a barrier, and it is not. On console it covers both current and last generation hardware on each family, so PS4 and PS5 players match together, as do Xbox One and Xbox Series X and S. Nintendo Switch is included in the same pool despite running a heavily cut down version of the game.
The game does not sort players by platform strength either. There is no separate queue for the Switch build, no input based matchmaking split between controller and mouse, and no regional partition beyond the standard server regions. A trial is five players and the matchmaker fills it from whoever is queuing at your skill rating.
How to Turn Crossplay Off, and What You Give Up
Behaviour lets you disable crossplay, with one condition worth knowing before you go looking for the toggle: it can only be changed from the main menu. If you are sitting in a lobby, the option is locked. Go to the main menu, open Settings, and the cross-play toggle is there to switch off.
The cost of switching it off is larger than most players expect. Crossplay is not a platform by platform choice, it is a single on or off switch. Turn it off on Steam and you lose Epic and Microsoft Store players as well as every console player, because the game treats all other platforms as one group. On Switch, where the local population is smallest, disabling crossplay can leave you waiting several minutes for a single trial. Unless you have a specific reason, such as a tournament ruleset, leaving it on is the practical choice.
Cross-Progression Runs on a Separate Account
Crossplay decides who you play with. Cross-progression decides what you keep. The second one requires a Behaviour Account, created at account.bhvr.com, with each platform account linked and synced to it. You can link one account per platform, so two Steam accounts cannot both feed the same profile.
Once synced, the game builds a merged profile rather than picking one and overwriting the rest. Character levels and perk tiers take the highest value found across your linked accounts. Items and offerings take the highest quantity. Bloodpoints, Iridescent Shards and Rift Fragments become an accumulated total across platforms, which is why long-time players who owned the game on two systems often see a large balance appear after their first sync. Auric Cells follow the same merge rule with one exception: Nintendo Switch keeps its own separate wallet.
What Does Not Follow You
Several things stay behind, and the list is specific enough to check before you switch platforms. Platform exclusive cosmetics do not transfer, so a PlayStation exclusive outfit stays on PlayStation. Achievements and trophies are awarded by each platform and are not shared. Game settings do not carry over, so sensitivity, keybinds and audio all need setting up again on a new device. DLC entitlements move in one direction only where Switch is concerned: purchases made on other platforms can be recognised on Switch, but Switch purchases do not travel the other way.
Mobile Is a Different Game Entirely
Dead by Daylight Mobile is a separate product built by a different team, with its own progression, its own store and its own release cadence for chapters. It has no crossplay with the PC and console version and no cross-progression with it either. If someone tells you they are playing on their phone, you cannot queue with them, regardless of settings.
What Crossplay Does to Queue Times and Matchmaking
The practical benefit of a merged pool is a healthier matchmaker. Dead by Daylight needs one killer and four survivors at a comparable skill rating, and survivor queues are usually longer than killer queues because more players want to play survivor. A single cross-platform pool is what keeps that imbalance from becoming unplayable on smaller platforms.
It also means the skill distribution in your lobbies is wider than it would be on one platform alone. That cuts both ways. You will meet Switch players running at a lower frame rate and PC players with a mouse and a 240Hz monitor in the same trial, which is worth remembering before reading too much into any single match result.
How This Compares to Other Crossplay Games
Dead by Daylight sits at the permissive end of the crossplay scale. Compare it to Rainbow Six Siege, where console players can opt into PC lobbies but PC players cannot opt into console ones, or Destiny 2, which separates certain competitive playlists by input. Dead by Daylight applies none of those restrictions, mostly because it is an asymmetric horror game rather than a competitive shooter, so aim precision matters far less than map knowledge and timing.
For the wider pattern across the genre, our breakdowns of Overwatch crossplay and Apex Legends crossplay show how differently studios handle the same question, and Marvel Rivals shows a newer title launching with crossplay on from day one.
Betting on Esports at Flush
Dead by Daylight has a competitive scene, though it is small compared to the shooters and MOBAs that anchor most sportsbooks. If you follow esports more broadly, Flush's sportsbook covers 70+ sports including CS2, League of Legends, Dota 2 and FIFA, settled in Bitcoin and nine other coins. Markets and odds move quickly around patch cycles, and if you want to check whether a price is fair before placing anything, our no-vig calculator guide walks through how to strip the bookmaker margin out of a line.
Responsible Gambling
If you are new to betting on esports or gaming adjacent markets, set a budget before you start and treat it as entertainment spending, not a way to recover losses. Flush's responsible gambling tools include deposit limits, session timers, and self exclusion, all adjustable directly from your account. Free, confidential support is available around the clock from GamCare (0808 8020 133) and BeGambleAware in the UK, and the National Council on Problem Gambling (1-800-GAMBLER) in the US, or via Gambling Therapy globally.
Dead by Daylight is crossplay across all eight supported platforms with the feature on by default, while cross-progression is a separate opt in through a Behaviour Account that merges most of your profile but leaves platform exclusives, trophies and settings behind. How We Researched This
Methodology
Platform support, the crossplay toggle and the cross-progression merge rules were verified on September 21, 2026 against Behaviour Interactive's own support documentation, specifically the Cross-Progression FAQ and the crossplay deactivation article, then cross-checked against PCGamesN's platform breakdown. Where the official FAQ and third-party guides disagreed on what transfers between platforms, the official Behaviour documentation was treated as authoritative, and the Nintendo Switch exceptions for Auric Cells and DLC entitlements were confirmed directly in that FAQ rather than inferred from secondary coverage.
